How to Diagnose Canon Printer Problems

Printing Issues on Canon imagePROGRAF Large Format Printers (Mac OSX )

A number of users may come across problems printing from Vectorworks to Canon's imagePROGRAF line of large format printers. This problem may include missing text, incorrect scaling and randomly disappearing geometry.

Normally the issue is not present when the user attempts to Export to PDF instead, but then can become apparent again when trying to print that PDF from Preview or Adobe Reader.

(This is primarily an issue with the Canon print drivers in Mac OSX 10.6)

This may be corrected by going to the File > Print > Printer Settings in Vectorworks, then under the Main menu, in the Advanced Settings tab, uncheck the option for "Fast Graphics Process

How to Change a Canon Printer From USB to Bluetooth

Some Canon printers possess the ability to connect to your computer via both USB and Bluetooth. When connecting through a Bluetooth connection, you do not need any wires or cables running between the computer and Canon printer. If you have been using the USB connection, you can change to Bluetooth at any time, as long as your Canon printer is Bluetooth enabled. If not, you can't adjust your printer to function as a Bluetooth device.
1 Remove the USB cable connection. You don't need to add any new drivers because the current printers are already installed from your USB connection.
2 Click the "Start" button on the desktop and select the "Run" option. A small window appears on your screen.

3 Type "bthprops.cpl" (without the quotation marks) and click "OK." This opens the Bluetooth settings window.
4 Click "Add" in the window then chose "My device is set up and ready to be found." Click "Next" and the computer scans for any nearby Bluetooth devices.
5 Choose your Canon Bluetooth printer from the list that pops up and click "Next." The printer now connects to your computer and you can begin using it with the wireless connection

How to Troubleshoot a Canon Pixma MX860 on Mac

The Canon Pixma MX860 is a printer designed for both Windows and Mac use. When using the printer on a Mac, you do need to follow specific connection options; otherwise, the computer will be unable to detect the Pixma MX860. This includes installing a service driver onto the Mac and ensuring everything is connected completely.

1 Check the USB data cable running from the Mac to the Canon printer. If the USB cable is not completely inserted into both devices, the Mac will fail to detect the printer.

2 Install the Canon Pixma MX860 driver onto the computer. Download the driver from the link provided in "Resources," then double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts of the installation wizard to install the driver.

3 Disconnect the USB cable from the Mac, then insert it into a different USB port. Occasionally, some ports on the Mac will fail to detect the printer, or even die out. Plug the cable into a different USB port to correct this issue.

4 Restart the Mac and the printer. The Mac may not have detected the printer when first booting up, so restarting the equipment corrects this problem.
